There used to be a group of graphic designers who would meet up in Lincoln and Omaha on the Third Thursday of the month. I can’t recall if it were an officially-sanctioned meetup by a group like AIGA, but the same people tended to show up. Sometimes they had sponsors who bought food. Other times, we’d just have coffee, beer, and talk about whatever was on our minds.
I learned a lot form those groups, not just about graphic design but various trends, books, and ideas I hadn’t heard of. It morphed over time as one group seemed to take over from another, but sometime around they stopped meeting altogether.
I tried keeping tabs on various professional groups, but 2020 seemed to do them in completely. It took a year or two, but I thought it was worth trying to revive the concept myself.
Welcome back to real-life, everybody!
